Highlands Halfway House is an 18 bed facility situated in the northern suburb of Highlands, approximately 6 km from Harare CBD.

CLINICAL SERVICES

Psychiatry

Psychiatrists are medical doctors specialized in the treatment of mental illness, and will be based at Highlands Halfway House. The psychiatrists will hold bi-weekly consultations with the patient and/or next of kin. If necessary, they prescribe appropriate medication and/ or detox plans, order blood tests, and other medical screening, while monitoring the patient’s progress. Once optimum recovery stage is reached, they are subsequently discharged from the facility.

Psychology

The psychologists offer evidence based approaches in a supportive and confidential environment, guiding residents on how to cope with a wide variety of psychological, emotional and behavioral challenges. Sessions cater for individuals, couples or groups; for challenges such as panic attacks, anxiety, substance misuse and other psychological conditions. Services also include; psychometric tests, school placement reports and forensic reports.

Occupational Therapy

After the initial standardized assessment, the Occupational therapist assists residents with establishing and maintaining a well balanced daily routine across their areas of occupation which include; self-care, work/ school, leisure and social participation. Residents are engaged in daily therapeutic sessions. designed to address the individual’s unique problem areas; for instance, stress, anger, conflict, social skills, return to work support and life goal setting.
